Passive Color LCD Controller-Driver
INTRODUCTION
UC1697v is an advanced high-voltage mixed-
signal CMOS IC, specially designed for the
display needs of low power hand-held devices.
In addition to low power COM and SEG drivers,
UC1697v contains all necessary circuits for high-
V LCD power supply, bias voltage generation,
temperature compensation, timing generation,
and graphics data memory.
UC1697v employs UltraChip’s unique DCC
(Direct Capacitor Coupling) driver architecture
and LRM (Line Rate Modulation) gray-shade
modulation scheme to achieve well balanced
shading, vivid colors, and natural-looking images.
With UC1697v, LCD makers can now achieve
TFT-like image quality, while maintaining the
same STN advantages in power consumption,
unit cost, ease of customization and production
flexibility.

FEATURE HIGHLIGHTS
Single chip controller-driver for 128x128
matrix C-STN LCD with comprehensive
support for input format and color depth:
8-bit RGB:
256-color
12-bit RGB:
4K-color
16-bit RGB:
64K-color
A software-readable ID bit (ID0) to support
configurable vender identification.
ID pin (ID1)-switched input data sets (D[7:0]
or D[14,12,10,8,6,4,2,0]) for 8-bit mode.
Partial scroll function and programmable
data update window to support flexible
manipulation of screen data.
Support both row-ordered and column-
ordered display buffer RAM access.
Support industry standard 4-wire, 3/4-wire,
and 3-wire serial bus (S8, S8uc, S9) and
16-bit/8-bit parallel bus (8080 or 6800).
Special driver structure and gray shade
modulation scheme. Low power
consumption under all display patterns.
Fully programmable Mux Rate, partial
display window, Bias Ratio and Line Rate
allow many flexible power management
options.
Four software programmable temperature
compensation coefficients.
Software programmable, self-configuring
10x charge pump.
Flexible data addressing/mapping schemes
to support wide ranges of software models
and LCD layout placements.
Pad layouts support COG applications.
VDD (digital) range:
1.8V(Typ.) ~ 3.3V
VDD (analog) range: 2.6V(Typ.) ~ 3.3V
LCD VOP range:
6.4V ~ 16.5V
Available MTP trimming supports precise
LCD contrast matching.
Available in gold bump dies.
