8 / 20 page  LTC3541 3541fa OPERATIO The LTC3541 contains a high efficiency synchronous buckconverter,averylowdropoutregulator(VLDO)and alinearregulator.Itcanbeusedtoprovideuptotwo outputvoltagesfromasingleinputvoltagemakingthe LTC3541idealforapplicationswithlimitedboardspace. Thecombinationandconfigurationofthesemajorblocks withintheLTC3541isdeterminedbywayofthecontrol pinsENBUCKandENVLDOasdefinedinTable1. WiththeENBUCKpindriventoalogichighandENVLDO driventoalogiclow,theLTC3541enablesthebuckcon- vertertoefficientlyreducethevoltageprovidedattheVIN inputpintoanoutputvoltagewhichissetbyanexternal feedbackresistornetwork.Thebuckregulatorcanbecon- figuredforPulse-SkiporBurstModeoperationbydriving theMODEpintoalogichighorlogiclowrespectively.The buckregulatoriscapableofprovidingamaximumoutput currentof500mA,whichmustbetakenintoconsideration whenusingthebuckregulatortoprovidethepowerfor boththeVLDOandforexternalloads. WiththeENBUCKpindriventoalogiclowandENVLDO driven to a logic high, the LTC3541 enables the linear regulator,providingalownoiseregulatedoutputvoltage attheLVOUTpinwhiledrawingminimalquiescentcurrent fromtheVINinputpin.Thisfeatureallowsoutputvoltage LVOUTtobebroughtintoregulationwithoutthepresence oftheLVINvoltage. With the ENBUCK and ENVLDO pins both driven to a logichigh,theLTC3541enablesthehighefficiencybuck converterandVLDOregulator,providingdualoutputopera- tionfromasingleinputvoltage.Whenconfiguredinthis manner,theLTC3541’sautostart-upsequencingfeature willbringthebuckoutputintoregulationinacontrolled mannerpriortoenablingtheVLDOregulatorwithoutthe FU CTIO AL BLOCK DIAGRA – + VLDO/LINEAR REG LFB 3541 F01 PGND GND 500mA BUCK SW VIN REF ENVLDO MODE FB GND PGND REF REF LFB CNTRL GND LVIN VIN CONTROL LOGIC 4 LVIN 6 BUCKFB IOUT(BUCK) = 500mA LVOUT 5 8 ENBUCK VIN VIN(MIN) ≥ LVOUT + 1.4V SW 1 10 10 µF 22pF 2.2 µF LVOUT(MAX) < VIN – 1.4V IOUT = 300mA (VLDO REG) IOUT = 30mA (LINEAR REG) 2.2 µH 11 7 3 2 9 Figure 1.
